Environmental Monitoring Programs

Environmental monitoring provides information on the local chemical and biological environment, whereas compliance monitoring ensures project activities comply with regulations, permits and standards. IEM designs monitoring programs that determine the types and quantities of substances entering the environment, where these substances go, and the effect they may have on biota. By routinely monitoring pre-determined parameters, IEM can compare environmental change caused by project activities (pre-production, production and post-production) to baseline conditions.

Onshore monitoring programs typically measure the quality of air, soil, groundwater and surface water; onshore monitoring programs recently designed and conducted by IEM are listed below.

The quality of seawater, sediments, benthos and plankton are commonly measured for offshore monitoring programs; offshore monitoring programs recently designed and conducted by IEM are listed below.

Qatar Petroleum Environmental Monitoring Plan

The environmental regulations of the State of Qatar (State of Qatar Environment Protection Standards, issued in June 2003 under the Law 11 of 2001 and Law 30 of 2002) define Qatar Petroleum (QP) environmental monitoring requirements for all operations. An Environmental Monitoring Plan (EMP) has been developed to guide QP operations environmental monitoring program.
