Environmental Impact Assessments

Environmental impact assessments incorporate primary and secondary data to evaluate potential socio-economic and environmental impacts from proposed project activities. As part of the EIA process IEM outlines prevention and mitigation measures for identified impacts and designs a protection and management plan to ensure compliance with existing Thai legislation, other relevant legislation or regulations, and company directives.

The following is a selected list of recent EIAs undertaken by IEM:

Huai Phai Onshore Production and Drilling

PTE(T) plans to drill and produce one conventional well, Huai Phai-1 (HP 1) in the SW1 Concession located in Phetchabun Province, Central Thailand.

Somboon Potash Mine

Asia Pacific Potash Corporation Ltd. (APPC), the holder of an exploration concession in Udon Thani Province, plans to mine and process potash (sylvinite) found in the Udon South deposit (previously named Somboon deposit). Thailand’s regulatory approval of the proposed mine requires the preparation of an environmental impact assessment (EIA). The Somboon Mine EIA has been completed and was submitted for review in 1999 and approved January 2001.

Pipe Manufacturing Plant

Canadoil Pipe Ltd. (Canadoil) proposes to build and operate a Pipe Manufacturing Plant in Amata City Industrial Estate, Rayong, Thailand, on an area of 112,000 m2 (70 rai) immediately adjacent to Canadoil Asia’s existing pipe fittings plant.

Block G4/43 Petroleum Hydrocarbon Exploration

COTL plans to carry out exploration drilling to determine oil and gas reserves in Block G4/43.

Offshore Hydrocarbon Production, Block 9A

Chevron Offshore Thailand Limited (COTL) intends to produce oil and gas from the Block 9A Concession area in the Gulf of Thailand. The Block 9A concession is located centrally in the Gulf, adjacent to Tantawan concession area in Block B8/32 concession. The western boundary of the Block is approximately 155 km from the nearest islands, Koh Phangan and Koh Samui.

PTT Gas Pipeline No. 3 – East Side

PTT plans to construct and operate a new natural gas transmission pipeline system, the Third Transmission Pipeline Project. The project includes an offshore pipeline that would transmit natural gas from the Arthit and Erawan platforms in the Gulf of Thailand to gas receiving facilities at Rayong Province and an onshore pipeline that would deliver natural gas from the receiving facilities to the Bang Pakong Compressor Station in Chonburi Province.

PTT Gas Pipeline No. 3 – West Side

PTT plans to construct and operate an extension to the Third Transmission Pipeline Project East Side. The project includes an offshore pipeline that would transmit natural gas from Third Transmission Pipeline Project to PTT Region#5, Ratchaburi Province.
